California Road Trip

New year, new beginnings. At least that's what the saying goes, right?

2012 was definitely an interesting one. It was frustrating and busy (oh so busy), but there was also a lot of happiness, laughter and love.

Friends got married. People came and went. A new job.

The year was not perfect by any means, but when is life ever perfect?

I ended the year with a road trip in California (and Nevada). Drove down the coast on Highway 1 from San Francisco to Malibu (where I saw dolphins swimming in the ocean - super cool), headed east to briefly visit LA before making it out to Joshua Tree National Park (breathtaking).

Drove north through desolate desert roads (so dark and deserted that if your car broke down, you were screwed because there was no cell phone reception or another car for miles away) to Las Vegas for a Cirque du Soleil show, then to Death Valley National Park before heading north to Reno, Lake Tahoe and finally back to San Francisco.

6 days, 2829 kilometres - maybe a little too ambitious, but I saw more of California than I ever thought I would. Who knew there was snow in California? Definitely not the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of the state.

And of course there was food. Ate up and down the state, discovered a cut of meat called tri-tip (and decided it wasn't for me), and stumbled upon a place that sold delicious jerky.

New year, new beginnings. Looking forward to what 2013 has in store.
